Ontario’s new health minister is going ahead with legislation to ban pay-for-plasma clinics —including one set to open in Hamilton.
“We will be reintroducing this bill in the upcoming session,” said Samantha Grant, spokesperson for Health Minister Dr. Eric Hoskins.
Bill 178, the Voluntary Blood Donations Act, was introduced by former health minister Deb Matthews on March 20 in response to Canadian Plasma Resources building two clinics in downtown Toronto and one on 370 Main St. E. that would entice plasma donors with a $25 Visa card or a charity donation in their name.
The bill died when the opposition parties forced the June 12 election.
